The Job Window

You didn’t get the promotion you were after because the other person who was up for the job was more qualified than you.

You’ve been counting calories for two months and you still can’t get into those new jeans you bought.

You’ve been submitting your amazing story to all the contests you hear about and you never get selected.

You’ve heard about this killer shark that’s got everyone so terrorized they don’t even want to take a sip of water lest the thing spring out of their cup jaws open.

Never having seen it for yourself, you’re confident you’ve got what it takes to take the fish down. And then you see the beast and realize, you’re going to need a bigger boat.

If things are not going as you expect or hope, instead of continuing along in the same way as always, sometimes you need to reassess. Do you need to improve your qualifications, gain more experience? Do you need to add exercise to your calorie counting? Do you need to rewrite that story or start a new one?

Instead of lamenting the fact that things are not going the way you want in your little boat, get yourself a bigger boat!
